Clubs and Committees

Café Committee

This committee identifies and schedules a series of speakers for OLLI’s lunchtime presentation series.  The series can include presenters who have taught at OLLI or who are new to OLLI.  Presentations are approximately 45 minutes in length and usually followed by a brief question and answer period.

Clubs & Activities Committee

Responsibilities include identifying, establishing and coordinating clubs and activities which may be of interest and enjoyment for the OLLI membership. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month, at 10:30 AM in room 102D of the UConn Waterbury Campus.

OLLI Book Club 

Book Club members invite all active OLLI members to join their discussions. Discussions are held the third Monday of each month, January-November, in Room 102D unless rescheduled for special book readings and discussions.

OLLI Film Club 

The purpose of the OLLI Film Club is to encourage lively discussions about films. There are activities before and after each film to aid in these discussions, facilitated by a member of the Film Club committee. We invite all OLLI members to attend!

OLLI Genealogy Club 

Open to all members of the OLLI Community who would like to to learn more about your family history, to plan events and activities, provide answers to questions, and discover service projects in genealogy. Look for more information in the Weekly Newsletter about meetings and events.

OLLI Photography Club 

The Photography Club meets the last Friday of each month. Join us for photographic challenges and critiques as well as advice on composition, exposure and contrast as well as creating black and white images. No experience needed!

OLLI Reiki Club 

Reiki uses energy to heal different parts of the body physically, mentally, and emotionally. This Reiki practice club is open to anyone who has had Reiki Level One or Two whether at OLLI of elsewhere. During our meetings we will practice on each other, or bring a friend who would benefit from a Reiki session. Meetings are the first Monday of each month.

Curriculum Development Committee

The Curriculum Development Committee identifies topics of interest to members, recruits new instructors, and helps develop OLLI’s educational goals.

Editorial Committee (Voices and Visions)

The Voices & Visions Editorial Committee coordinates Voices & Visions, an annual literary publication which showcases original writings, art work, and photography of the OLLI membership.

Membership Committee

The Membership Committee recruits new members through outreach, and provides support and hospitality to existing members.

Newsletter Committee

Responsibilities include gathering announcements and information, and writing news stories for inclusion in the OLLI newsletter.  The design and production of the newsletter are accomplished with assistance from the OLLI staff.

Nominating Committee

With input from the OLLI membership, it is responsible for recommending the slate of officers and members-at-large to the Leadership Council.  An additional responsibility includes recommending members to fill other Leadership Council positions/terms as the need arises and prior to the next scheduled Leadership Council meeting.

Travel Committee

Responsibilities include identifying, researching and coordinating all aspects of potential travel activities and travel events which may be of educational interest and enjoyment of the OLLI membership.
